Ben looooves playing games on my iPad. I try to make it a rare event, more like a special treat, but when I bring it out he literally screams for joy. The problem is, he will only play a game for about 2 seconds before hitting that home button and then he is instantly deleting my apps. Great.
I found a few tutorials online on how to disable this button and I thought I would share it, since its really great not having to download Instagram every other day.
Anyway here it is, how to disable the home button on your iPad or iPhone to keep your kids within one app:
- Open your Settings icon
- Click 'General', then 'Accessibility'
- Under 'Learning', turn on 'Guided Access'
- You will be asked to create a password here which is what you will need to code in later to leave an app that you have locked
Now that this 'Guided Access' has been enabled, open any app that you want your child to play with and quickly triple-click the home button, which will allow you to lock the app and disable the home button. When you press 'Start', guided access has begun and will remain that way until you unlock it. To do so, you simply triple click the home button again and enter your password, then end guided access. Ta-da!
Anyone have any favourite kids apps? I love the Eric Carle 'Counting with the Very Hungry Caterpillar' app, and Ben's fav is, of course, the Bubble Guppies app :)
