Oh, I love you raindrops.

I decided to make a larger variation of my No. 4 raindrop painting for our bedroom, making it just black and white (with hints of blue that don't show up too well in this photo). I'm so happy with it! Finally the wall isn't bare. 




Our bed is king sized and you'de be surprised how hard it was finding a canvas this size...we actually wanted it wider, but then it would have been too tall. This works for now anyway, and down the road I have a different plan for this wall anyway (something like this) and then it will be perfect.





I still have a lot more I want to do to our room, but for now at least we have this! An Ikea trip for new dressers and side tables is definitely in our future...

The new upholstered bed...is done!

This is officially my favourite DIY project that I have taken on EVER. It was probably the most work (but not even that bad), but I feel like having a nice big piece of furniture that we made ourselves is pretty cool. And, it's literally the bed of my dreams. 


I have wanted an upholstered bed for years...but they are pricey. Like $2,000 pricey. And considering the amount of clothes I could buy for that amount of money, I was simply unwilling to save up the cash for one. 


Then one day I saw this project, and the wheels started turning. If anyone could do a project like that, it's me. I was on the Ikea website within minutes to check the stock, but unfortunately that bed doesn't come in king size. So it was great inspiration, but wouldn't work for me.


Then I started thinking...well, it's just wood, right? Maybe I can just make the whole thing. Soon came a series of sketches...most of which are now in the trash but all resemble something like this.





Well, after a trip to Home Depot and another to Fabricland, and a LOT of time with a staple gun...this is what we came up with. LOVE IT.





We also the wall behind the bed black...still have more to do in there but it's liveable for a while as is.





Things that I have learned from this project.

1. Never attempt to screw together a lot of pieces of wood without the help of a husband/partner/person stronger than you.
2. When shopping in Fabricland, head straight to the sale section. $20 a yard for fabric is just silly.
3. Measure a lot. Not just twice. 15 times at least. 
4. Wood is not actually the size they tell you it is. A 2x4 is neither 2 or 4. 
5. Building a bed is not easy. But it's not that hard. And with any luck, it won't crumble to pieces one night while we're sleeping.

I have raved about A Vintage Poster in the past as most of you know, but I have a new reason to sing their praises. Not only do they do custom work (maybe they always have, I just didn't realize), but they recently had an anniversary sale and I just had to take advantage.





It's no surprise that I chose a Killer's lyric...but I was shocked at how cool of a design Sara, the shop owner, came up with. This print is soon to be on it's way to me and will be a part of our new and improved master bedroom. Cannot WAIT to share the after pics!

Finally! Working on the bedroom...

I'm so excited to start this project! As soon as it's all done I'll be sure to share the pictures!

These days I'm working a lot on the plan for our master bedroom makeover. It's going to be low key (read: cheap) so there won't be any astonishing changes...but I'm hoping to make it look cool with a VERY low budget. A big part of that is due to my bed frame buyer's remorse (I get this a lot, anyone else?) so I have to work with it until I'm ready to do what I want with it. That's another project for another day...

Anyway, bed linens are always such an easy way to make a room look better. I have a bit of a duvet cover obsession, I literally can't leave Ikea without one...but I think I could add one more to our collection. Isn't this so cute?

I can't decide if I want to go for something like that, or stripes. Stripes would be cute too.

Weekend, Oscars, etc.

What a weekend! It was a busy one for us, but a really good one. Saturday began with a shopping date in Toronto with the lovely Corinne and Rachel, SUCH a great day! Not only did we all buy fabulous things and eat a delicious meal, but we got to have a little Jersey Shore run-in to top it all off. Thanks Vinnie for holding the door to Fran's for us. I'm guessing we're not total grenades. (Non-Jersey shore watchers will not get this, please ignore). It took everything in us not to throw in a little t-shirt time remark as we passed, but we stayed cool.

Saturday night B and I took a little drive to Burlington to see Mike & Em who it feels like we haven't seen in ages! I guess the months leading up to a baby really are insane, especially when you throw two bathroom remodels into the mix. But what can I say, we're crazy.

Sunday B and my Dad managed to get the fan into the bathroom ceiling, which I must say from the sidelines did not look like a fun project at all. But, now that it's in we can really get moving. This week our plans are to:

• Scrape the walls that were behind tile to ensure they are as smooth as possible
• Paint the ceiling (since it's going blue-black, it's best to do it now while nothing's in there)
• Install wainscoting and trim

And after all of the work was done for the day, we settled in for the Oscars. A few remarks about this years show. I wasn't thrilled with Anne Hathaway. She seemed overly smiley and awkward. James Franco, on the other hand, impressed me, and I wasn't expecting him to be very good at this. I thought the show was a touch boring, and there were many missing celebs as usual. But overall, it was ok.

And on to the dresses! A word to Scarlet, Cate, Penelope, Reese...ladies, I expect a LOT from you, and I was really bummed with your dress choices. You all looked lovely, but come on. Especially you Cate.

Moving on.

My absolute fav:

This dress, albeit a touch more revealing, reminded me so much of my wedding dress. When I saw it, I knew it wouldn't be topped for me. And I don't usually favour the black dresses, but this one is AMAZING.

The runner up:

This one is so, so lovely, and had I not seen the first one would have been at the top of my list. Mila has much better style than I realized...I hope she's at these shows more often.

Honourable mentions:

It is my personal goal to be as hot as Helen is when I'm her age. And as thin. She always looks amazing. Love her.

This is strange, but I have warmed to Sandra a lot this past year. I think it's just that I really respect how she handled her whole dramatic situation. And I notice her a bit more now on the red carpet. Billy described my thoughts on her perfectly last night. He said "It's not that I think she's that pretty, but she always looks good". It's exactly what I think too.
