Bath Toy Storage - Boon Baby Products

Lately I've been looking for more bath toy storage options, and I have not been able to find much. I did pin this idea recently, but something about it just looks too kitchen-y, and cluttered, and I think it would bug my forever, so I didn't go that route. I wanted something really simple that would look cute and out of the way.

Then I remembered Boon. I knew they carried great high chairs and I already have and LOVE my grass drying rack (which I use for my paint brushes instead of baby stuff, he he). They have a ton of different products, but I especially love their bath line. SO CUTE. 



I'm not normally into having typical baby stuff all over the place, but I thought this whale would look pretty cute in our bathroom, and Ben is a big fan. I think it's adorable.



It's also a really practical option, because there is drainage, so the toys don't sit in a wet container and they stay within reach, which I like. It holds quite a bit too, definitely enough for bath time. And I love that there's a little shelf for shampoo! 

I'm going to be stocking up on more Boon products for sure, including their bath toys which don't absorb water so they never get mildewy. Love it. I also love this organizer and this penguin snack container.

Have you found any cool baby bath toys or storage options out there? Love to get new ideas!

Main and basement bath - before and after

Alright, here we go….the after pics! Of BOTH bathrooms!!

The main bath in our house has horrible, horrible before shots. Not only were they iPhone pictures, but they were taken at night with the light on in the worst possible conditions, no cleaning or tidying up at all, just to provide the full affect.

So, let’s take a look!!

Well? What do you guys think? We are so thrilled with it. We have way more storage, and it feels so much more spacious in there. The bathroom was probably the only thing that I didn't like about this house when we moved in, so it's such a good feeling to have it fixed!!

Here are some ‘during’ shots as well. Billy has a lot more of these on his phone, since he was in the thick of it for the most part. But, as you can see there were some particularly grueling moments. When we think of the pictures where there were no walls or floor, we cringe, and half expect to walk in there and still see it.

Renovating a bathroom can be really tough to live with…having a shower in the comfort of your own home is such a luxury!!! But, now we can shower all we want and, believe me, it’s the BEST!

I have have a few pics of the basement bath that we put in a while ago. It’s pretty simple, but so nice to have. Again, terrible before shots. Most people didn’t even realize there was a room behind that door!!!

And so, we’re all done. The nursery is also 99% done but we’ll get to those pics soon. In the mean time, if you’ll excuse us, I think we’re going to take a little nap ;)

Bathroom - pics coming soon

Well, it's done! At last!!! Billy has been working day and night for weeks now, and yesterday we got to bask in the glory that is the new bathroom. It's clean and sparkly and fully functional...we are beyond happy with it. Last night I had THE best shower of my life. Looking forward to another one tonight!!

Before and after pics will be coming...we have some sleep to catch up on first, but they'll be ready soon!!

I have to say, Billy went above and beyond with this project. Here I am, very pregnant, unable to do much of anything but hand him whatever tool he needs and going to sleep at 9 pm while he stays up until 2 am painting. But he did it. I'm so, so proud of him!!!

Long weekend plans

This week Billy has been slaving away at the bathroom tiling. He actually wont let me help anymore…and I feel really, really guilty for spending my weeknights watching made-for-teen television and eating cookies. Well I don’t feel that bad.

Anyway, we’re hoping that this project will wrap up very soon and then it’s time for me to take over and clean the house top to bottom. I’m an absolute clean freak, it’s scary how much I love to clean. So, while Billy is tiling at 11:00 pm, I’m working on my plan of attack. Yes, I plan how I will clean. That’s right.

Tomorrow while he continues on with the bathroom project, I will work on the nursery…putting together some of the decorative parts to the room. We’re still awaiting a few things that are in transit (artwork, mobile, and crib), but my plans for tomorrow are:

• Get the blinds and drapes hemmed and hung up

• Put the slipcover on the chair and ottoman (just pulled them out of the packaging this week to wash so they’re nice and fresh)

• Put floating shelf above dresser

• Start putting books, toys, etc. on bookcase

If by some miracle all of the artwork arrives today, we can get that up too…but I think that’s a long shot. Ah well, it should arrive any day now!

The rest of the weekend will be focused on the bathroom. I have Monday off as well (using up those vacation days), so if we REALLY work hard, we MIGHT be done by then. But, even if that's not the case it will be close. On the agenda for the bathroom by the end of this weekend:

• Lay floor tile (Billy is working on this today, bless his little tiling heart)

• Fix plumbing (roughed in) so we can install toilet, sink and shower

• Grout all tile

• Paint touchups around shower surround

• Put up trim

• Paint wainscoting and trim

And if we do end up with the plumbing sorted, then we can actually finish everything else too (install toilet, vanity, cabinet, etc.)!

We'll see how it goes...but a month of no shower in our home is getting a little less than fun for this pregnant woman. Thanks to Mom, Dad, Don and Norine for letting us frequent your showers, ha ha!! I am beyond excited to have one at home, in our pretty new bathroom!!!!

Bath and Nursery Update - Day 2377897854

I can barely open my eyes today, I’m SO tired from the work we did this weekend. But, it was a very productive one, so I can’t complain. I do miss weekends where you get to actually just relax, and I only vaguely remember what they are like…but soon enough I’ll be relaxing in my tub in our finished bathroom…

Saturday was focused on getting in the new sub floor, which was suppose to be an easy job, but no such luck. Always the way! However, it got done and is nice and solid.

With this out of the way, it was time for tiling to begin! And I’m happy to report that I actually got to participate in this project! I officially love tiling. I can’t wait to tile our kitchen back splash…it’s so much fun! And WAY easier than I thought it would be. We have about half of the shower surround done, and our plans are to finish that and the floor tile this week. If we can manage that….then this weekend we can get the plumbing in place and get things set up!!

My Mom and I also got to tackle those Ikea boxes that have been lining the halls of the Duckworth house for months now. I was pretty nervous about the dresser, it looked like there were enough pieces to build a house…but it was so simple! And tackling that first made the bookcase an absolute breeze.

Amongst all of this, I also managed to get away for a lovely birthday dinner in honour of my Mom at Papagayo....and was pleased to discover they do in fact offer a virgin option of their amazing margaritas!!!

So, here we go with another busy week. Tonight we’re crib shopping and making a stop at Ikea…and the rest of the week will be tiling adventures!

So long old crappy bathroom!

After the amazing morning when we got to see our little guy, the rest of the weekend was spent tearing our main bathroom to pieces. Literally.

No more ugly tile, no more horrible, horrible vanity. No more peel and stick floor. Hurray!!!

Now we have a nice blank slate. Lots to do still...and it will be a while before it's all done, but the scary part is over (finding out just what is behind those bathroom walls).

As suspected, the walls were never done properly, namely no vapour barrier was used and the tiles were just laid over drywall. But, at least we can correct that all now.

The toilet and vanity are gone as planned, but at the last minute we ended up ripping the tub out as well, as there were a few nicks and scratches, and there's just no point in building a beautiful new bathroom around an old tub.

The plumbing line for the shower has also been extended to a better height. The shower was initially designed for a 4 foot woman, and that just doesn't work for a 6 foot 4 husband.

So for now, it's as bare as it can be. Next up on the agenda:

• Install new tub

• Put vapour barrier and backer board up in shower surround

• Install fan in ceiling

• Replace outlet

• Put up subway tiles in shower surround

• Install new shower head and tub faucet

• Put wainscoting up on walls

• Lay tile on floor

• Trim around walls and doorways

• Paint ceiling and walls

• Install toilet

• Install vanity, sink and faucet

• Hang medicine cabinet and cabinet over toilet

• Put up shower curtain

• Hang towel racks, hooks and toilet paper holder

• Hooks on back of door and beside shower

Happy Monday!

I’m loving this mild weather today…it was very tempting to throw on a spring dress and sandals but I didn’t want to get carried away. I am pretty desperate for spring…I hope it comes quickly!

Another weekend has gone by, and a very productive one! Our weekend was half restful, half busy, but overall just perfect.

The highlight was definitely our early Valentine’s date….so much fun. The Keg didn’t happen thanks to a two and a half hour wait…but instead we headed to Kelseys which was lovely, followed by a Chapters run and a movie. We went to see Sanctum which I have been really excited to see since the first preview…and I spent most of my time either covering my eyes or trying to adjust to the whole 3D glasses thing. Note to the squeamish: when the girl is hanging on a rope in an attempt to get from one side of the cave to the other, CLOSE YOUR EYES!! Gross things happen.

Another highlight of the weekend was continuing the Sons of Anarchy marathon we’ve been on for the past few weeks, partnered with delicious chocolate chip pancakes. Billy has been watching this show for a long time and I’m just getting caught up. Yesterday I saw the one with a little cameo from Stephan King, so awesome! He was the perfect creepy guy for the job.

In addition to all of this amazing relaxing time, we managed to pick up a huge portion of what we need for the upstairs bath project. We got SUCH great deals! Home Depot is running a Bathroom Event which is almost over (it ends Wednesday if anyone's interested), so we decided to take full advantage. I can’t wait to get this project started…it’s going to look amazing. Here’s a shot of what we took to the checkout, woo hoo!

We now have our vanity, storage cabinet, toilet, shower surround tiles, floor tiles, faucet, shower head….and a bunch of other little things. We ended up picking a very different flooring tile than we anticipated, but we just fell in love with it, AND it was about a quarter of the price of what I had in mind. Even better.

Looking forward to this week and the mini-projects we have planned. Hoping to have some basement bath after pics soon too!

A possible quick fix

Our new bathroom is eventually going to get a major face lift. For now, we want to work with what we've got for at least a few months. It's actually pretty great as it is, very white and clean. There is a row of black tile that goes around the room above all of the white tile (not something we would have chosen, but definitely livable....we once had a completely avocado green bathroom for those that remember). So the only thing we will change right away is the sink, the vanity, the medicine cabinet, and the light fixture.

In a recent Ikea outing we saw this set in the showroom and it looked perfect. Very classic, in keeping with the house, but still a little bit modern. The search is on for a light fixture...
