Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm gearing up for what should be a lovely night out with my Mom and some girlfriends...Billy's on Benjamin duty! And I MAY have a glass of wine...daring I know!


This has been a great week, I've felt really inspired! Projects galore of course. I added a new painting to the bathroom recently, and this being my 5th one as of late I'm getting really into it!





Ages ago I did a set of three paintings for our living room that we really love, and I'm thinking of doing a few more sets like that and maybe throwing them up on Etsy! 




So I've been keeping busy, and watching Benjamin change every single day. Yesterday I heard a REAL laugh...but so far it's been a one time deal.


Last night we watched the movie Bridesmaids, and I have to say I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Best movie ever. See it if you haven't!!


This weekend I'm excited to relax, bake another Gwyneth recipe and hopefully visit my Grandma!

Main and basement bath - before and after

Alright, here we go….the after pics! Of BOTH bathrooms!!

The main bath in our house has horrible, horrible before shots. Not only were they iPhone pictures, but they were taken at night with the light on in the worst possible conditions, no cleaning or tidying up at all, just to provide the full affect.

So, let’s take a look!!

Well? What do you guys think? We are so thrilled with it. We have way more storage, and it feels so much more spacious in there. The bathroom was probably the only thing that I didn't like about this house when we moved in, so it's such a good feeling to have it fixed!!

Here are some ‘during’ shots as well. Billy has a lot more of these on his phone, since he was in the thick of it for the most part. But, as you can see there were some particularly grueling moments. When we think of the pictures where there were no walls or floor, we cringe, and half expect to walk in there and still see it.

Renovating a bathroom can be really tough to live with…having a shower in the comfort of your own home is such a luxury!!! But, now we can shower all we want and, believe me, it’s the BEST!

I have have a few pics of the basement bath that we put in a while ago. It’s pretty simple, but so nice to have. Again, terrible before shots. Most people didn’t even realize there was a room behind that door!!!

And so, we’re all done. The nursery is also 99% done but we’ll get to those pics soon. In the mean time, if you’ll excuse us, I think we’re going to take a little nap ;)

The basement bath works!

This Saturday while my Mom and I spent the day shopping, my AMAZING husband and father worked all day long on the basement bath project. (Yes, I'm spoiled).

Although it doesn't look done quite yet, the worst is over. We officially have running water, and a flushing toilet!

And now I can go crazy in there! Yesterday I did the (tedious) second coat on the wainscoting, and this week we will be working on:

• Painting the walls

• Hanging the light fixture

• Hanging mirror

• Installing the door stopper

• Putting up the towel holder and toilet paper holder

• Replacing the handles on vanity

• Installing the door handle

• Looking for artwork for the far wall (maybe...maybe not)

This also means that we're one step closer to working on the Main Bath! SO EXCITED!!!!

The basement bath project continues

Last night while the hubby was out playing hockey (and winning, by the way) I made myself useful and started prettying up the soon-to-be bath in the basement. It's a far cry from complete, but every little bit counts.

The wainscoting and trim has all been painted white (first coat only), and the walls have been cut in (sadly, I realized late in the game that I had run out of fresh rollers...boo).

It's going to be nice and bright in there soon enough! I am SO excited to be hanging up the mirror and putting fresh towels in there. And the pets are pretty excited about this new room they've discovered. Finn will be in the sink in no time.

A good start - basement bath and nursery

We spent the weekend working away on the house….my Mom and I were busy working in the bursery, and Billy and my Dad got a good start on the basement bath project. I’m so excited to see progress!

The bathroom has many challenges, as Billy and Dad can attest to. The flooring isn’t level, none of the walls are actually flat, the ceiling is a disaster (not actually there, in fact, but the walls were not done properly either so a drop ceiling is needed). The list of issues goes on and on.

The fact that I was insistent on wainscoting was a bit of an eye roller for them due to the lack of straight walls and floor, but they worked it out and it's starting to look amazing!!!

Next up, toilet, hooking up the faucet in the vanity, painting, then the pretty stuff! And after pics, of course.

The nursery, on the other hand, holds no surprises. It’s simply dark, and desperately in need of fresh paint.

This weekend we primed all of the walls, and painted all of the trim and doors. I like to do the trim, and then the walls. Call me crazy, but for me it’s much easier to paint wall colour up against finished trim neatly then it is to do things the other way around. So, goodbye dark grey walls and rose (!) coloured closet! Hello blank canvas.

Still on the agenda is painting the ceiling (two coats, ugh) and then it’s wall colour time! In a few short weeks, I’ll be putting furniture together, yay!!!!

Basement bath, soon to begin!

Last night we went to Home Depot to price out the things we'll need for both bathroom projects.There are still many things we'll need to get that are less fun then the sink and faucet, like drywall and trim and that sort of thing. But, we'll be making a few more HD pit stops before these projects are started anyway.

One thing is for sure, it is not an easy task picking out faucets, let me tell you. I think I stood there looking at them for at least one full hour. They seem to be either WAY modern, or super traditional...and I like a bit of both. Here's what we walked away with (note, the sink isn't this exact one...but it's pretty close).

We're keeping this 2nd bathroom pretty simple. Apart from this, all we want in there is a place for a towel, a nice mirror, and a pretty light fixture.

Our main focus, once this is done, is going to be the upstairs bath. THAT will be a project...yikes!

In looking at through the bathroom section of HD last night...I feel again torn by the modern vs. classic furnishings they have. It applies to vanities, faucets, everything. I don't want it to be TOO modern, because I think that look can be a bit cheesy...but how can I mix the two and make it look intentional?
