I'm trying to take better care of my skin these days, as I mentioned in this post. I actually think I'm too late, sleepless nights have aged me a good decade, but better late than never.
One thing that I NEVER use are face masks. I never thought they really did anything, I never had time, yadda yadda yadda.
Not too long ago I started looking into them, and found a million recipes online. I like the idea of there being just a few ingredients, and better yet, ingredients I already have. I also didn't like the idea of using honey or egg or anything gross and sticky. Ew.
So, I experimented a little, and came up with the most simple recipe ever, and the results were AMAZING. Here's all you need.
Exfoliating Baking Soda Face Mask Recipe:
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda
- 2 teaspoons of water
Starting with clean skin, cover each area slowly using a GENTLE circular motion (it may not seem like it, but this is exfoliating your skin majorly, so go easy, you'll feel it after). I LOVED the texture of this, it felt like velvet.
Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, and gently rinse away. After your skin will feel a bit tingle, and it will be in need of some moisture. Slather on your face lotion (I like Aveda's Botanical Kinetics™ Hydrating Lotion) and that's it!
If you have extra time, try mixing up a bigger batch (just triple the recipe) and use it all over. It's like a spa in a box of Arm and Hammer. Bam.
This sounds really good - and really simple. For years I have bought and used masks. Peel off masks, ones that dry and crack, clay masks, you name it. Didn't notice any difference afterwards. I'm trying this.
ReplyDeleteIt will honestly work wonders. You will be surprised at how instant the results are. Just go EASY. It's seriously like microdermabrasion.
DeleteTried this and it's awesome!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU for trying and for sharing it ;)
DeleteThis sounds amazing! My husband works at an Aveda Salon so I have masks and such but I think I'm going to try this out!
ReplyDeletePlease try!! I really think you will be impressed!
DeleteAlso, LUCKY YOU, you must have so much Aveda. Jealous!
This sounds great! Definitely trying it!
ReplyDeleteYay! Let me know if you like it! I'm hooked :)
DeleteShould I apply this to dry or wet skin?
DeleteWonderful idea. Baking soda and water. How much simpler could it get. I am going to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteOh yay! Let me know how you like it Betty!! :)
DeleteTried it - loved it. My skin felt so soft afterwards.
ReplyDeleteGood! So glad you liked it!!!
DeleteSeriously burn-y but after applying some moisturiser, my skin feels lovely :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not something to risk leaving on too long, though, and maybe not a good idea for sensitive skin.
You know, everyone's skin is different and you're right, it's not for everyone. I actually have quite sensitive skin and I find the key is to be really gentle applying it...it's easy to underestimate how much it's actually exfoliating because it's so fine but it's REALLY taking that dead skin off. This reminds me...I need to do one of these soon! It's been a while :)
DeleteFor sensitive skin like mine with eczema and allit does burn a bit on wounds and dry skin but it works:) it clears up the problems and eczema for me. I just bare through the burn and its great on healing acne and my eczema. Great post been using this for awhile:) thanks for sharing:)
DeleteDo you have an update for how this mask effected your skin- a month into the routine?
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm actually going to post an update tomorrow (due to your request and some emails I've received recently) so check back for it!
DeleteI'm going to try this! I was told last weekend at a spa that I need to exfoliate more, but who can afford expensive treatments?? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog via pinterest and gave this a go! It really worked! I especially loved what it did for my hands that look much much older than they actually are. Will be making this a weekly ritual! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear! :)
DeleteI love this home remedy thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteI love this home remedy thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteHow often do you apply the mask?
ReplyDeleteAbout once a month these days :)
DeleteSo when i mix them....its staying watery! Did exact amount stated of each ingredient..
ReplyDeleteThe consistency is definitely liquidy, it won't be too dry a paste, but if you want it a little more paste-like just add a bit more baking soda! Either way it will really smooth out the skin! :)
DeleteI having been looking everywhere for fast and easy exfoliating masks and I just tried this one and it did wonders! In my opinion it works way better than the eggs or honey. I love how my skin looks and feels! Definitely going to do this from now on. Thank you!(:
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! I feel the same way about it, it's such a great natural scrub! I'm going to work on a few more easy home beauty recipes so check back! :)
DeleteTried it - loved it. My skin felt so soft afterwards How often do you apply the mask? it has to be everyday??
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't recommend doing this daily, it will likely irritate your skin. Try it weekly, I tend to use this monthly as I have sensitive skin :) glad you tried it and liked it!!
DeleteWe think so much alike!! I don't like using honey & egg whites either! I tried this mask for the first time this morning & IN love with it!
ReplyDeleteAnother recipe for super silky soft skin that your significant other can't keep your hands off ;) is:
sugar * olive oil! I don't know the exact measurements...I just use it to make enough for my arms & legs. Even my face! Leaves your face feeling like silky sheets & does wonders for skin!
Give it a go! <3
Lovely, thank you so much!
DeleteIt feels so refreshing and as supple as a baby's bum!
ReplyDeleteLove this mask
ReplyDeleteFace feels super soft and looks brighter and cleaner.
Gives me the same effect as dermalogica's daily microfolient
